Portable SNES for The Win!

Ahh, the SNES. With games such as Super Mario World and The Link to the past, why wouldn't you want to play it on the go?!

When people go to all the effort to make the SNES portable, It brings Joy to everyone (that can't have it).

There have been a few Portable Super Nintendo's, and here are some of them:

The video above shows someone playing a very GBA-like Portable SNES. The game he's playing is the original Starfox, and I have to say: I'm beyond Jealous...

Wow... It's (almost) completely made out of wood!

This Portable SNES is definitely less portable. But you could still move it to where ever you want to play.

Hey, I never said there weren't portable NES's!

Another wooden one? Jeez, what's with all this wood?

That one's nice...

OK, So as yo can see, SNES and NES can be portable. You just have to get your hand dirty, and get the work done.

Mario Kart Items

Want to know all the items in Mario Kart? Then look no further!

here's a guide showing all the items and how to use them!

Enjoy!-

Banana Peel-

The banana peel is known as the most basic of Mario Kart items.
Throw it on the ground and wait for an unsuspecting racer to slip on one.
Slipping doesn't result in too much inconvenience, just a quick spin and your back to carting.
But place them all in one spot and your lucky to get out of there alive!
You can't get them once your passed First Place
In all Mario Karts

Fake Item Box-

Another basic item.
It's an item box that looks normal from afar, but once you get closer you notice some things.
  • The Question mark is upside down.
  • The block appears to be red once you get closer.
Once you run into this deceiving fellow, you do not get an item, but instead another trap!

Place this right next to real ones to trick people!
You can't get them once your passed First Place
In all Mario Karts

Green Turtle shells-

How many turtles must be killed to use these?!

The green turtle shells must be used wisely. As the spin around you, you could use them in a few different ways:
  • Smash into someone while you have them.
  • Launch them once your lined up with them.
  • Launch them all at once in hopes of getting someone.
  • Use them as protection.
they can do damage if you use them well.
You can't get them once your passed Second place
In all Mario Karts

Red Shells-

They're basically the same as green shells except they lock onto their targets!
But watch out as they still make mistakes:
  • If you launch when there's no one around they go for you.
  • They go into the wall if they can't find anyone.
In Mario Kart DS they go the furthest!

There isn't really any way to avoid them, but you can hold onto an item (banana peel, Green shell) to make it take the hit!
You can't get them once your passed third place.
In all Mario Karts

Bob-Omb-

Wow, a bomb?! That's pretty hardcore!

Bob-omb is a bomb...

Throw this baby as far away as possible and soon a giant explosion will send you fellow racers flying!
But there are some problems:
  • You're forced to through the bob-omb a reasonable distance.
  • If you crash with him, you go flying as well.
Since you have to throw him pretty far, it's hard to actually get someone! If you drop him behind you and someone is right there, you'll go flying as well.

Judge your throws, so you can just get rid of that thing!
You can't get them once your passed fourth place
In Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart Wii.

Bowser Shell-

Wow! Did they actually kill bowser to get this?!

The shell acts just like a normal green shell but deals out more damage.

You can't get them once your passed fourth place
In Mario Kart Double Dash.

Blue Shell/Spiny Shell-

Basically this shell is designed to annoy whoever is coming first.

The shell either flies or rides to whoever is first, and smashes them in a big blue explosion!
There isn't really a way to avoid it, but if you jump out of a cannon (in Mario Kart Wii/DS/Double Dash) you can miss it completely!

You can't get them once your passed fifth place
In all Mario karts (except Super Mario Kart)

Dash Mushroom-

These mushrooms are just used for speed boosts.
Use them at the right time! If you drive into someone whilst using them, they get jerked right off the course!!

You can't get them once your passed second place
In all Mario Karts.

Golden Mushroom-

This mushroom allows you to continuously boost until the time runs out.
While using this, it's very hard to control, so try and use it on a straight stretch.

You can't get them once your passed fifth place
In all Mario Karts

Bullet Bill-

Ever wanted to be Bullet Bill? Well Now you can in Mario kart!

Once you turn into Bullet Bill, you pummel every one in your way, and it is pretty punishing.
You can't control what your doing, but it just flies around the whole course knocking down everyone in it's way.
There's no way to avoid it if your standing in it's path!
You can't get them once your passed fifth place
In Mario Kart DS ad Mario Kart Wii.

Blooper-

Blooper is a character that has appeared in many games before Mario kart, but now he wants his revenge for all the times Mario murdered him!
Blooper unleashes a fury of ink on to all the players screens in front of you. This can make things difficult for everyone.

If you get inked:
  • Look for an item block.
  • Use a mushroom.
  • Go up a boost ramp.
The ink will blow away.
You can't get them once your passed third place
In Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart Wii.
Lightning-

The lightning bolt will let you electrocute everyone causing them to shrink!
This obviously makes them slower, and more prone to attacks. In Mario Kart 64, you can even get flattened by others!

If your invincible while you get shocked it wont affect you.

You can't get them once your passed fifth place
In all Mario Karts

Invincibility Star-

This obviously makes you invincible!

And while your invincible to attacks and items, falls still affect you!

This also makes you knock people into the air!

You can't get them once your passed seventh place
In All Mario Karts

Mega Mushroom-

Wow, that's a big mushroom!

This mushroom is from New Super Mario Bros and recently appeared in Mario Kart Wii.
The Mega Mushroom makes you gigantic, allowing you to crush everyone in you path.
Depending on how you hit them, the impact will differ.
If you just run right over them, they'll flatten. If you hit them from the side, they'll fly to the right or left.

And if that isn't enough, there's some pretty cool music playing while you use it!
You can't get them once your passed fifth place
In Mario Kart Wii

POW Block-

POW!
This thing grants you the pleasure of making EVERY PLAYER ON THE COURSE SPIN OUT!!!
This is hated by many battle fans because it means everyone on one team loses one balloon!

The only way to avoid this is to try and stay in the air while it's being used. It won't get you in the air.

You can't get them once your passed sixth place
In Mario Kart Wii

Thunder cloud-

A cloud appears above your head. You have to bump into someone to pass it on, before it strikes you making you small.
This item can be good if used right, or bad if used wrong!

You can't get them once your passed fourth place
In Mario Kart Wii

Boo-

Boo steals other peoples items for you. If someone's using this, use your item ASAP!

(in Mario Kart 64 it also makes you invisible)

You can't get them once your passed fourth place
In All Mario Karts Except Mario Kart Wii.

OK so that about wraps things up for this encyclopedia! I haven't done five items:
Egg
Fireballs
Giant Banana
Heart
Chain Chomp

But they're from Double Dash Which I haven't really played much of in a while.

So happy Mario Karting!

(This took me a very long time)

Flooded

This blog has gotten flooded with posts. Now with me posting here every day, the posts archive is huge.
And the archive will only get bigger. Solution?
Organize posts into either days, or weeks. But that means at the end of every week I'll have to make a week that was post every time.

I think I'll just let it stay, but if you've missed a few posts and want to see some, don't complain about the archive.

WI-FI

After playing Mario Kart Wii I felt like I needed: More.

Seeing the main menu I noticed two modes that required WI-FI. The WI-FI mode (obviously), and the Mario Kart channel.

From then on I knew I needed WI-FI.

I headed down to my local JB HI-FI. I asked them about the WI-FI USB connector, a source of creating a wireless connection in one's house.
They showed me the package, it looked new and stylish.
I was very tempted to buy.
The price was mere $50. I say 'mere' because EB game had it at almost $70. Too bad I forgot my wallet on that day.
Even if I had brought my wallet, it still wouldn't have been enough. After buying Mario Kart Wii just two days ago, I was about $15 short.

I'm getting WI-FI. I just don't know when. Mario Kart Wii will definitely show everything it has to offer once I do.

Brawl Gets European Release Date

Europe has finally gotten a release date for Brawl!
The 27th of June.

While this is great for Europe, It's also good for us. European and Aussie release dates aren't usually too different.

My guess is we get it within the same month.

Luckily for me, that's the same month as my Birthday, and I'll have plenty of time to play Mario Kart Wii*!

*Review coming before Monday*

Wii Developers can Improve Graphics

High Voltage software has created a new game engine titled quantum3.
This engine will allow developers to create better looking Wii games, they say even as good looking as the 360/ps3.

But from the video above, I can't exactly see a difference, what about you?

The Seal Of Quality

This seal has appeared on all Nintendo branded games since the NES.
Bu it has also appeared of third party games.

Third party developers obviously can't get their games to have as much quality as Nintendo's, but this was still labeled on the games.

The seal cannot be applied to a game if the following is true:
-The game is too offensive.
-The game is too religious
-The company didn't ask permission from Nintendo to make the game.
-The game is too violent.
If the statements are true, then the game does not meet quality standards.

But so many times I have noticed very bad quality games still get this seal. Why? Because every company has the right to make games, and the more games the more money.
I'm not saying Nintendo really wants the money, I'm saying the third-parties want it.

The seal of quality is here to stay, and as Nintendo says:

Always look for this seal when buying videogames!

Mario Kart Wii's Battle mode fleshed out

The video above (made by Wii Folder's Josh Thomas) is a spoiler free look at the battle mode of Mario Kart Wii.
I was waiting for his coverage for a while now, and I think it's a bit too late because it's coming out this week, and he got the Japanese copy a while ago.

But it's still a great video anyway so have a look.

(The changed balloon battle is a little disappointing)

Bikes over Karts

Mario Kart seems to be turning into Mario Bike!

Ever since the introduction of the the bikes I was worried.
Any change to the classic Mario Kart franchise could break it's formula.
But everyone who has it seems to prefer using bikes. The majority of race times appear to be done using bikes.
I guess I'll decide which is better once I get it (5 more days!!!).

Rumor or News: Paper Mario on DS

I've been awaiting this franchise to visit the DS, but it could just be a rumor.

According to (the translated version of) a Ruliweb post about a note in the latest issue of CoroCoro Comic, a DS version of the Nintendo 64 Paper Mario is on the way

A port?I would've liked a new game but whatever.
I have never played the N64 Paper Mario so I'm looking forward to it.

It was created to be used exclusively to the Virtual Console, and can only be used for SNES games.

Since it only available in Japan, it goes by the name "Super Famicon" Controller, which is what the SNES is called there.

It is unclear whether this will ever be available for retail.

DS Review- Professor Layton and The Curious Village

I was skeptical about Professor Layton and The Curious Village. Sure I love puzzles as much as the next gamer (there are plenty in Zelda).
But playing a game that is almost entirely about puzzles? I was more than worried.
But after spending some time with this game, I now realize it's one of the greatest puzzle games ever made.

Professor Layton finds out that there is a Golden Apple hidden St Mystere and goes to investigate. The late Baron Reinhold hid this item just before dying, and has promised all of his fortune to the one who finds it.
Along with the Golden Apple many other mysteries are happening in the strange village.

Everyone in St Mystere is obsessed with puzzles.
Almost every time you talk to someone they force a puzzle upon you. This might sound bad, but the puzzles are so well thought and fun, that you'll like it.

Puzzles range from entering numbers and letters, fining something hidden in a picture and getting a ball out of a maze.
So many puzzles so little time. Although it might sound pointless, most puzzles you solve will earn you valuable information, items, or they could open a door.
The length of Professor Layton depends on how fast you are at solving the puzzles. But despite being a kids game, Professor Layton can be devilishly hard. One puzzle took me over an hour to solve.
Some puzzles might seem hard but they trick you like riddles. Here's an Example:
Mice can start breeding two months after they're born. If you buy a female mouse, how many mice will you have in ten months?
Sound hard huh? Well the answer is one because mice can't have baby's on their own.

Any puzzle that you miss will get sent to some old lady's house where you can come back to play whenever you want.

Professor Layton entirely touch screen controls, which is definitely suited to the puzzles.

Graphically Layton is fine. It's cartoony style is great, and the cutscenes are the highlight of the game.
Anime style movies are in between bits of the game, and the rare times you see them are brilliant.

I almost forgot to mention Layton's humble apprentice, Luke!
Luke aids Layton on his journey and you sometimes play as him to solve puzzles.

If your not into puzzles I think you'll hate this game. There way too many for anyone to just try to skip them.
But you have to like puzzles, because they're charming, thoughtful, and incredibly abundant!

Mario Kart Wii Disc Errors? (NOOOOOOO!)

Remember th Disc Errors that plagued the Brawl Fans around the world?
Well apparently it's going to happen with Mario Kart Wii.

I would be very disappointed if my copy of the game didn't work (knock on wood) and that would mean my review would get postponed so fingers crossed!

Unlike the problems with Brawl, Mario Kart Wii's disc isn't dual layered, so something else must be wrong.
Maybe a few copies must just be faulty.
It's unknown why people claim that there are problems.
But whatever the reason, Nintendo will fix it.

Famitzu Publisher enterbrain reckons this E3 will have Nintendo announce a new DS update, but I seriously doubt since the DS is good enough.

New Gamecube Controller Revealed

This month Nintendo will be releasing a brand new Gamecube controller.
They will be manufacturing the controllers again to sell to Wii owners.

The controller isn't too different, It's basically just a normal controller except with a white Wii-like colour.

The gamecube controller can be used for things like playing virtual console games, playing gamecube games, or even playing Super Smash Bros Brawl!

The controller also has a much longer cord, measuring at 3 meters.

I think this is a great idea and I'm definitely going to buy one.

Final Fantasy IV Announced

The DS game Final Fantasy IV has been announced to be released in July of next year.

Not much has been said about the game since because it is too early.

But the game will basically be a remake of the classic Final Fantasy game that was originally on the SNES.

The player takes the role of Cecil, a Dark Knight from the kingdom of Baron, on his journey to save the world from the evil Golbez. Struggling to prevent Golbez from acquiring powerful Crystals, Cecil learns of his heritage and travels through three realms to battle Golbez's minions. His lover, best friend, and other warriors join him for the adventure.

Wii Drought

Remember the Wii Drought?
The claims of the Wii not supplying enough games for the worlds gamers?

Well I think it might be over. We now have games such as Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime Corruption and more.

We can expect games such as Wii Fit, Super Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart Wii.

And that's just Nintendo's Games!

Third Party Wii games are plentiful with games such as No More Heroes, Red Steel, Excite Truck and more.

We can expect third Party games such as De Blob, Line Rider, Sonic Unleashed and more!

What Wii Drought?!

My Sprite Art Update 3

I got inspired when I went to game on.

Space Invaders is SO addictive!

This is what it would look like if you took space invaders and placed them in New York City!

VC review- Yoshi's Cookie

Yoshi's Cookie is a puzzle game for the NES. It sells for 500 Wii Points on the Virtual Console.

The aim of Yoshi's Cookie is to clear all of the cookies from the screen by matching the same types together.

Basically just move your curser around the cookies and drag the rows up and down to match them it sound simple.

It's too simple for me. there really isn't much more I can explain about this game. I think it's too bland to enjoy for a large amount of time.

Game On- Review

Yesterday I went to Game On.

Game On is a gaming exhibition held at ACMI (Australian Center for the moving image) in federation square.

I walked into the exhibition and saw heaven!

Retro games as far as the eye could see, as well as more recent ones.

I started to regret arriving late.
It was packed! So many games i wanted to play were taken, but patience was the key to getting a turn. If you waited long enough you could play.

The games were plentiful and varied. Every game had information stuck on it explaining how to play the game, and what platform it's on.
All the games were in different groups.

-Early Arcade games

-Games Consoles

-Games Families

-Kids Games

-Character

-Film Games

-Sound

-Game Culture (USA and Europe)

-Game Culture (Australia)

-Game Culture (Japan)

-Multiplayer

-The making and Marketing of Games

-Future Technology

-Mobile Games

-Online communities

On the walls there were bits of Game information and game art.

In the early arcade games section, there were Space Invaders tables which I played a lot of!

I had a compition with some guys on Super Smash bros melee.

In the end I had a very enjoyable time and I think every gamer in Melbourne should go there. There's plenty of time, Game On ends on the 13th of July!

96/100

The best gaming exhibition ever!

'Wee' Jokes gone?

You remember those hurtful 'Wee' jokes people made about the Wii?
Well i think it's safe to say that they're very rare now, probably because the people who joked have realized, "Wow, this gaming machine is selling more copies than the 360 and ps3, and is braking sales records. Maybe we shouldn't make jokes any more".

Nintendo were on to something with the brilliant name. To make something catchy, yet suitable. Nintendo were trying to make a name that would represent who the console was for: Everyone. Wii represents We as in us. The two i's could represent two people.
The revolution did sound cool, and it suited the look of the console, but it sounded hardcore, not casual.

To anyone who makes fun of the Wii's name, should be reminded of how popular and brilliant the Wii really is.

Americans polled about a brawl sequel!!!

This really grinds my gears.

Nintendo sent out a survey to registered owners of Super Smash Bros Brawl asking them whether they would purchase a Brawl sequel or not.

WHY MENTION A SEQUEL WHEN WE DON"T EVEN HAVE IT YET?!

This is so unlike Nintendo it shocked me. Asking the customer if they should make another sequel is very weird. Americans have only had it for about a month now, and the pal regions still don't have the game.

Why Nintendo? Why?

Meteos- DS Review

Meteos was released in 2005. I'm reviewing this now because I want everyone to know how good it is.

Puzzle games suit the DS perfectly. The touch screen enables you to control things perfectly. The dual screen can help the player see more.

Meteos uses this to it's advantage.

The story of Meteos isn't just an excuse to make sense of the puzzle system. Meteos' story works perfectly for the puzzle system.

The evil planet Meteo is shooting coloured blocks at the planet Geolyte.
The inhabitants of geolyte use their power to shot back the blocks by fusing the same colours together, creating a launching flame.

So the basic idea is to move block vertically in their columns to match them vertically or horizontally.
When they match it shoots them up above the other blocks. If it's strong enough, the block tower will shoot up into the planet you're attacking. If not, then you must match the blocks in the tower while it's coming down from the sky try and shoot it back up.

Sound confusing?
The truth is that anyone can master it in just minutes!

The controls on this game work great.
So to slide a block up or down a column, just put your stylus on the block and slide it to where you want it.

It's so simple!

There are 5 main modes.

Simple- Set your rules and play on game.(this just for quick plays.)

Star Trip- Defeat planet Meteo! Reach the end! ( this is the main story mode, it can take a while!)

Deluge- Play Until You Fail! ( this take a VERY long time, it's great for seeing how long you can go!)

Time War- Shoot for high scores in four rule sets! (see if you can last two to five minutes.)

Tutor- How to Play meteos.

There is also multiplayer ,Versus and so- on

The music in Meteos is epic! It kind of sounds like back to the future music sometimes!

ADDICTION ALERT!

This game will have playing all day and night. It NEVER GETS BORING!

Visual-89/100 Sound-94/100 Gameplay- 97/100

OVERALL- 97/100

An addictive puzzle game that gets everything right!

Mario Kart Metareview

As you can probably tell from the timer to the left, it's almost here.
And because of that, people are reviewing it.

Here are some summaries of reviews:

Nintendo Power -- 90%:
Nintendo power had nothing but good things to say about it. "With more features, modes and multiplayer options than ever before, fans should be revved up to get behind the wheel."

NGamer UK -- 88%: Ngamer thought there wasn't enough effort put into the multiplayer.
a really solid Mario Kart with a terrific online setup. There's plenty here to make up for the disappointment of local multiplayer, but it does stop short of magnificence."

Eurogamer -- 80%: Euro gamer loved it but wrote quite a short review.
"Ultimately, the sheer sensory pleasure of playing Mario Kart Wii - from the charming animations, to the bopping tunes, to the sugar-rush boosting, to the exquisite steering - far overcomes the few concerns we have about it. It still has to be docked a mark for the awkward structure and compromised battle modes - but it's still unreservedly recommended to anyone for whom Mario Kart is a gaming cornerstone. And really, that should be everyone."

So there you have it. But don't take their opinions, read my review coming soon!

20 Million Dollar Protection

You know that thin rubber thing you put on your Wii remotes?
It cost Nintendo 20 Million dollars to send you, and everyone else, those things.

After numerous complaints of people accidentally letting go of their wii remotes whilst playing, causing catastrophes, Nintendo offered everyone Wii remote Jackets.

Protective sleeves that you put on your Wii Remote(s).

Most people liked them, which is why people kept calling Nintendo for them.

Nintendo had to pay. Big Time.

Whenever you give away something for free, you have to be prepared to pay the price.

Nintendo are so nice for this for us!

For my review of the Wii remote jacket, click here.

Fake Brawl Character Menu would've taken a long time!

The image to the left would've taken a long time to make.

This is a picture of heaps of Nintendo characters in a Brawl Character menu.

It's absolutely ridiculous!

The fist charcter in the menu is Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario Link, Donkey Kong etc.!

Click on the image to see it better.

Not only is there a crazy amount of Characters, there is also a six player mode!!

Here's a list of as many characters I can be bothered to name:

Shigeru
Sandbag
Wendy
Roy
Ludwig
Lemmy
Iggy
Hookbill
Noki
T.T
Klump
Crump
Boshi
Boo
Petey
Shadow Mario
Toad
DK Jr
Candy
Funky
Resetti
Toon Link
Tetra
Tingle
Deku Link
Bill
Dry Bones
E.Gadd
Shy guy
Birdo
Baby Mario
Baby Bowser
Baby Peach
Nintendog
Slippy
Fox
Bomberman
Spyro
Tetris
croc
pacman
Paper Mario
And more!

Mario Kart Wii to feature all the control schemes of Brawl

Brawl Gave you four options of control:

Wii Remote and Nunchuck

Wii remote

Classic Controller

Gamecube Controller

These are the same control options available in Mario Kart Wii, except you have the choice of using the Wii remote in the Wii wheel or not.

Nintendo are really giving everyone freedom of control again.

Nobody should be arguing about the controls!

NOTE- To the left I have added a timer for when Mario Kart Wii is released in Australia so check there if your not sure.
